Return to your childhood coastal home in Small Town Terrors: Pilgrim's Hook to help save your twin brother from insidious forces that have taken over the town and the people who live there. Something has called you back, and it won't rest until it has claimed both you and your brother for its own. Can you resist the call of the sea? Find out, in this chilling hidden object adventure game!
Small Town Terrors: Pilgrim's Hook is categorized as a hidden object game. I normally do not like hidden object games because I don't enjoy being taken out of the story line repeatedly to complete the same task, again and again: look at a static screen and find hidden objects.
Small Town Terrors: Pilgrim's Hook, however, is the first hidden object game I enjoyed playing because the developers seamlessly incorporated finding hidden objects, solving puzzles, and uncovering a spooky mystery. (I love spooky mysteries!) I recommend playing Small Town Terrors: Pilgrim's Hook, even if you don't normally play hidden object games.
You play Vera, the elder twin sister of Arthur. Vera and Arthur grew up in Pilgrim's Hook and always knew there was something evil lurking there. Vera vowed never to return, but her brother has done so and is now in some sort of trouble. So of course, you, as Vera, return to Pilgrim's Hook.
Here is an old photograph of you and your brother. Aren't you guys cute?
Notice that whoever or whatever wrote you a note on the picture was not Arthur.
When you first arrive back at Pilgrim's Hook, you will have a conversation with an old man who works on the dock.
That gets the ball rolling; you must now uncover the mystery of what evil has befallen your beloved brother. You have a notebook in which the game records what Vera learns and stores the notes and newspaper clippings she finds in various places. You have a list of objectives that you may refer back to if needed, and when you discover a new place it will appear on your map.
You will have to travel around the large area of Pilgrim's Hook, gather necessary object and tools, and go back to the appropriate place to use them as you uncover the mystery. The storyline gets more complicated, interesting, and compelling as the game moves along.
The music in Small Town Terrors: Pilgrim's Hook is eerie and compelling. It makes a nice, soft, and creepy background against which to play the game. Puts you in the mood! The voices of the characters with whom you must speak are clear, sound good, and are well-acted.
The visual artwork in many hidden object games is usually impressive, and this one is not an exception. I think it is one of the most beautifully crafted hidden object games I have ever seen.
The following screenshot was taken right after a set of tentacles unwrapped from the bust and almost attacked Vera, which compels her to say what is printed at the top.
Small Town Terrors: Pilgrim's Hook incorporates and weaves together the supernatural and occult, a mystery, a creative and compelling story, beautiful artwork, appropriate music and sound, and fun puzzles to solve. Visit the dock at Pilgrim's Hook -- if you dare.
